Folded Pause System explores how one continuous folded-loop language can adapt to different moments of temporary rest: changing shoes at home, rearranging stools for informal conversation, or pausing briefly in a transit corridor.
Overview
One folded form language, translated across three different pause conditions.
Instead of building three unrelated objects, the sprint tested whether a shared folded profile could become a coherent system. The result is a family defined by rounded edges, continuous loop-like structure, and quiet material presence — each object tuned to a different behavioral context.
The family moves from home to office to public infrastructure. As the context changes, the same core logic shifts in scale, material expression, and degree of permanence while preserving a recognizable visual grammar.

Flexible workplace seating. A lightweight stool for critiques, workshops, and circular conversation that can be nested away when not in use.

The family was developed as three separate 3D models rather than as a purely visual styling exercise. The comparative study below documents the overall form envelopes, proportion changes, and structural translation of the folded-loop language across domestic, workplace, and public contexts.

Threshold Chair is a compact entryway seat designed for the small pause between outside and home. Its continuous U-shaped body creates a stable perch for changing shoes, setting down a bag, or briefly gathering oneself at the domestic threshold.
The object uses a soft rectangular loop profile with rounded edges, a hollow central opening, and a dark guidance slot near the base. Rather than treating the entryway only as a storage problem, the design frames it as a moment of transition: a quiet place to slow down before entering or leaving.
As part of the Folded Pause System, Threshold Chair establishes the family's core language — a continuous folded loop, calm proportions, and a low-noise material presence adapted to everyday rituals.

A lightweight freestanding stool designed for informal meetings, studio critiques, workshops, and short collaborative sessions.

Meeting Pause Stool supports a different kind of meeting posture: temporary, flexible, and easy to rearrange. It offers a lower, quieter seating object for moments that do not require a full workstation or task chair.
The stool uses a tapered hollow U-shell form with rounded edges, integrated structural depth, and small dark stack-stops at the base. Multiple stools can be arranged in a circle for discussion, pulled aside for individual use, or nested together against a wall when not in use.
Within the Folded Pause System, Meeting Pause Stool translates the same continuous loop language into a stackable workplace object, emphasizing temporary gathering rather than permanent workstation occupation.

A wall-mounted public seating system designed for brief moments of rest in transit environments.
Wall-Mounted Seating for Public Waiting Spaces
Transit Pause Bench provides a minimal place to pause without occupying the floor, keeping circulation and cleaning paths open. It is intended for corridors, metro stations, and public waiting environments where stillness must coexist with movement.
The system combines one U-loop end module with three asymmetric J-fold modules, creating a continuous seating line along the wall. Brushed stainless steel, soft radiused edges, and a dark mounting rail give the object an architectural, durable, and visually quiet presence.
Within the Folded Pause System, the loop-based language becomes thinner, longer, and more infrastructural — shifting from domestic ritual and workplace flexibility toward shared urban stillness.

From domestic threshold to public corridor, the family stays calm by reducing visual noise.
Folded Pause System is less about a single product and more about a repeatable way of thinking: pause as a design condition, folded structure as a formal strategy, and spatial calm as a shared outcome. Across all three concepts, the family remains compact, materially restrained, and behaviorally legible.
